Time Writing

Love

Love is the foundation of any family  whether your family is whole and live under one roof or you have a split family. Although you may tell your parents occasionally that you love them, you really don't realize how much that love means to you until you're physically separated from one of your parents. When I made the transition from grade school to junior high, my parents made a decision that would change my life forever. My mother and father decided that I would move down to my father’s house, in South San Francisco, from junior high to high school. I really did not give it much thought until the day I was supposed to go. One of the hardest moments in my life was, standing by my father’s car, saying goodbye to my mother and grandmother.

Capstone Hours #2

February 16th, 2013
Time Spent: 7 Hours
Running Time: 14 Hours

My second class session of my HTML 5 programming was yesterday, luckily for me Mr. Good decided to go over the <div> usage again, seeing as how the majority of the class was a bit confused on it. Yesterdays class really focused on how to insert images into your coding and how to make sure the image you use won't take up your entire webpage. We got a crash course on how to use Photoshop in order to convert our images to the right file type we needed in order to insert them into the line of coding. The first half of the class was spent purely on finding images we liked and converting them on Photoshop into the right size and file type. Coming back from lunch, Mr. Good finally started teaching us how to insert the image into the coding, the main line of coding that HTML 5 uses to insert images is <img id="*title of image you want*" src="*the location of the image you're using*" />. We spent the majority of the second half of the class really just mastering this line of code, a long with learning this, Mr. Good also taught us how to create ordered and unordered lists so that we may have a list of text in our website if need be. The last hour and half of class, we were introduced to how to create tables instead of just having a list of text. Learning how to insert images into our coding has been the most difficult part of learning HTML 5 so far, hopefully i won't have a hard time with it during our final project.

Capstone Hours #1

February 9th, 2013
Time Spent: 7 Hours
Running Time: 7 Hours

On saturday i started my HTML 5 Programming class through San Francisco State University. Coming into the class i was a little nervous considering that i was a senior in high school and most of the members of the class where all middle aged men and women who have had several years of work experience in some type of field of programming. Luckily for me i have some history with scripting languages so i was able to understand some of the terms my instructor used throughout the day. The first session of class we really focused on learning how to use Dreamweaver with HTML 5 and learning how to set up folders to help organize our website layout and our script files. After getting all that set up, we went through some of he basic tags used in HTML 5 such as <body> and <title>, a very important note that my instructor told us to always remember is that every tag used in HTML 5, with the exception of a few, must always have a closing tag. So when creating a title you must have <title> *insert text here* </title> (this of course being the closing tag he was referring to). After coming back from lunch, my instructor took us through a little of the history of HTML 5 and showed some tags that were no longer being used with the new HTML version. The rest of the consisted of playing around more with the tags we learned and also being able to test our first real web page, of course through the web page was not live and could only be seen on the client side. Overall i was extremely happy when i left my first day class and could not wait to go back the following week. One question i had was asking Mr. Good to help me a little with the <div> tags as it was sort of confusing when he was explaining the use of them.

Canterbury Tales Occupation

I would be a doctor, if i lived in the Middle Ages. I would live in a decent house with three kids and my wife, although i would barely be home throughout the day. My house would most likely be somewhere in Europe, where my family and i could experience all four season. My work would consist of me going around help people with the diseases they have, as well as give people their last wishes before they die. There would hardly be any cures for the diseases back in the time period, so ninety-percent of the time, i would just bleed people out to help the disease "leave" their bodies. On daily basis i would have to face multiple challenges, such as being around diseased infected patients all day long which would cause me to be more likely to pick up diseases. Another huge challenge would have to be facing the families of the people who have died to tell them that their loved one(s) has passed away. My family and i would be a tight knit family, that would try to do things together and take vacations when we have the opportunity too. My kids would be raised like any kids in the middle ages, they would respect their elders and learn to be self-sufficient at an early age. Living in the Middle Ages would probably be somewhat difficult, the black plague and other diseases would play a huge impact on the community around me, and i would most likely not associate with people who i know are more susceptible to them.

American Dream

American Dream

People risk it all to come to America and get a chance of living the American dream, but nowadays people value different things and benefits. Back in the day, before computers, people thought that the American Dream meant; owning a house, having a well paying job, and having two to three kids. Nowadays, in the 21st century, people seemed to have forgotten all the old values and replaced them with the newest technology. The American Dream for people, including myself, today would probably be; being wealthy, owning a huge house, and being able to retire properly.
Prices, though-out all goods, have sky rocketed in the last 30 years, and with the average American barely making enough to live comfortably. It gives no chances to be able to, not just buy all your needs, but to be able to buy your wants as well. Stated in, “Generation Screwed,” People nowadays are being into debt, roughly 50,000$ a person. The debt comes from old family members that have passed away and couldn’t afford to pay their final fees. With kids being born with debt, it doesn’t really give a great head start for that child’s education future. The real issue isn’t with all the debt, it’s with the high unemployment rate, when people lose their jobs, and they can’t pay their current fees. Jobs that usually go to newly graduated high school students are starting to get taken by newly graduated college students. Companies are starting to require a college degree to get hired, even if the degree you achieved as nothing to do with the job opening. “When unemployment goes up, it disenfranchises the younger generation” quoted from Kyle Storms in “Generation Screwed”.
For the first time in two generations, the dream of owning a home is being threatened. After the huge economy drop, in 2008, owning a home seems like an impossible task that only the wealthy can achieve. From the high unemployment rate to the inflation of home prices across the country, more and more people are losing their homes or can’t afford to buy one in the first place. Along with credit card debt, students that graduate college, graduate with an average of 27,000$ in student loans, which sets them far back from even having a down payment for a home. Owning a home is something that many people fear the most. Parents want to be able to leave a house to their children when they pass, but more and more Americans can’t afford to pay off their current homes.
Most people work their entire lives, after high school, in order to have a relaxed retirement. In 2008, during the downward spiral of the economy, peoples 401K, retirement plans, got cut virtually in half and the majority of elderly people had to go back to work. Dreams; of being able to retire and enjoy your remaining years of your life traveling the world, Seems like something only celebrities can do. Retirement has always been a huge part of an American Dream, but with the newer generations not being able to support themselves; older generations are being forced to go back to work just to survive.
It’s true that we risk it all, some more then others, to live our own version off the American Dream. But with the downward spiral the economy is in, everyone will have to start rethinking if their American Dream is even realistic. Without a change, future generations won’t even be able to extend their education past high school. College will be something that only the rich can afford.
