Capstone Hours #1

February 9th, 2013
Time Spent: 7 Hours
Running Time: 7 Hours

On saturday i started my HTML 5 Programming class through San Francisco State University. Coming into the class i was a little nervous considering that i was a senior in high school and most of the members of the class where all middle aged men and women who have had several years of work experience in some type of field of programming. Luckily for me i have some history with scripting languages so i was able to understand some of the terms my instructor used throughout the day. The first session of class we really focused on learning how to use Dreamweaver with HTML 5 and learning how to set up folders to help organize our website layout and our script files. After getting all that set up, we went through some of he basic tags used in HTML 5 such as <body> and <title>, a very important note that my instructor told us to always remember is that every tag used in HTML 5, with the exception of a few, must always have a closing tag. So when creating a title you must have <title> *insert text here* </title> (this of course being the closing tag he was referring to). After coming back from lunch, my instructor took us through a little of the history of HTML 5 and showed some tags that were no longer being used with the new HTML version. The rest of the consisted of playing around more with the tags we learned and also being able to test our first real web page, of course through the web page was not live and could only be seen on the client side. Overall i was extremely happy when i left my first day class and could not wait to go back the following week. One question i had was asking Mr. Good to help me a little with the <div> tags as it was sort of confusing when he was explaining the use of them.
